Enterprise Distributed Technologies is happy to announce the immediate
release of edtFTPj 1.5.4, the popular JAVA library for embedding full
FTP capabilities into JAVA applications.

edtFTPj is Open Source (LGPL) and can be freely embedded into
commercial applications. It supports a wide range of FTP commands, and
has been downloaded over 150,000 times.

Unrestricted (i.e. non-LGPL) commercial source licenses are also
available at a very reasonable price.

This release makes many small fixes and improvements:

* Added support for STOU, i.e. all put() methods now permit a null
parameter for the remote filename - the FTP server generates a unique
name that is returned.
* Timeout value now applies during initial connection to a remote host,
so connection attempts won't hang if a timeout is set. Only works for
JRE 1.4+.
* Control character encoding now used when reading directory listings.
* Added exists() method to FTPClientInterface and FTPClient.
* Fixed bug in handling FTP error messages when data connection has
been terminated.
* Do not null out FileFactory when quit() is called.
* Added support for MLST via fileDetails().

See http://www.enterprisedt.com/products/edtftpj/overview.html

We also have available a derivative commerical product, edtFTPj/PRO,
a secure version of edtFTPj supporting FTPS and SFTP.

Hello all,

A couple of colleagues and I are creating a 3D modelling application called
Sapphire, intended primarily for creating 3D models and environments for
games. The application is intended to promote a number of innovative
features that make modelling of both organic and artificial objects a
doddle. It's going to be free, open-source and extensible. I have put up a
small website discussing the project in more detail and showing screenshots
of it's current incarnation at www.btinternet.com/~richard.asbury/sapphire.

We are currently looking for help with development. We are particularly
looking for programmers (obviously we're working in JAVA) and OO designers,
but anyone is welcome to join in. Even if you've little or no technical
experience, you could still play a significant part in helping decide what
should go into the application, and making sure that feature implementations
are satisfactory. If you'd like to gain some technical expertise, this is a
great way to do it, and a great thing to be able to put on a resume/CV. One
of the main aims of the project is to get experience working in a team, and
with this sort of application, and so any help'd be gratefully received.

Thanks,

Richard AsburyP.S. This isn't a homework assignment. read more about Help needed building 3D modelling/mapping application

New in this release:

- Support for JDK/JRE V5.0 (JVM V1.5).
- Redirection of stdout/stderr to popup message box (for GUI
applications) or event log (for Win32 services).

SandMark 3.4.0 (Mystique)
-------------------------

SandMark is a tool developed at the University of Arizona
for examining, obfuscating, watermarking, optimizing,
measuring, visualizing, decompiling, and attacking JAVA bytecode.
The ultimate goal of the project is to implement and study the
effectiveness of all known software protection algorithms, and
to develop tools to make implementation and evaluation as
simple as possible.

Currently, SandMark incorporates
* 13 static and 3 dynamic software watermarking algorithms
(Venkatesan, Collberg, Stern,...)
* 33 code obfuscation algorithms,
* 3 code optimization algorithms,
* 6 bytecode diff algorithms (Manber,...),
* a visualization tool that can display bytecode instructions,
a program's inheritance graph, method control flow graphs,
register interference graphs, and method slices.
* 6 software complexity metrics (Harrison, Munson, Kafura,
Halsted, McCabe, Chidamber).
* a "wizard" that can select appropriate software watermarking
and code obfuscation algorithms to protect a program.

SandMark 3.4.0 (Mystique) is our first full release. It is available
for download from

Introducing CookSwing: XML to GUI toolkit

BSD License with complete source code.

The web site:
http://cookxml.sourceforge.net/cookswing/
A comprehensive JAVA web start demo:
http://cookxml.sourceforge.net/cookswing/cookswingdemo.jnlp

There are references (albeit not comprehensive), tutorials and JAVA
web start demos.

Features:

1. All Swing components can be configured. This is including but not
limited to JFrame, JDialog, JScrollPane, JTable, JList, JComboBox, etc.

2. Support various layouts: BorderLayout, BoxLayout, FlowLayout,
GridBagLayout, GridLayout, SpringLayout, etc.

3. Support attaching AWT listeners (ActionListener, etc), Swing
listeners (ChangeListener, etc) and Bean listeners
(PropertyChangeListener, etc) to any components/models that support
them.

4. Simple custom tags extensions. In fact, you can view the CookSwing
tag library as an extension to CookXml, the XML decoding engine behind
CookSwing.

5. Locale and resource bundle support.

Suggestions and improvements are welcome. read more about Introducing CookSwing: XML to GUI toolkit

Autojar generates self-contained jars starting from a given list of classes.
It searches the bytecode recursively for referenced classes, extracts
the corresponding files from wherever they reside, and creates an archive
containing only the classes you really need.

JNBridge, LLC, announces the general availability of JNBridgePro 1.4, the
latest release of the company's JAVA-.NET interoperability tool for software
developers, with new features that support large-scale application
development.

JNBridgePro enables the integration of pure JAVA with .NET applications,
while maintaining JAVA's cross-platform portability and conformance to JAVA
standards. JNBridgePro supports J2SE or j2ee and the leading j2ee
application servers, allowing .NET code to access j2ee facilities including
EJBs and JNDI.

With this release, JNBridge introduces new functionality that speeds
development, eases deployment, and provides fault tolerance.

Key new features and benefits include:

- Support for Continuity of Business (COB) solutions.
An automatic failover mechanism that enables a backup JAVA-side server to
take over if the primary server fails.

- Flexible configuration.
Additional JAVA sides can now be specified via an application configuration
file, which eases changes in deployment and configuration.

- Faster proxy assembly.
The generation of proxy assemblies is faster, by a factor of 10, making it
practical to generate proxies for very large JAVA APIs that contain
thousands of classes.

Availability
JNBridgePro version 1.4 is available for immediate download from the
JNBridge web site. See http://www.jnbridge.com for further information.

REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION (RFD)
unmoderated group comp.sys.mac.webobjects

This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) for the creation of a
world-wide unmoderated Usenet newsgroup comp.sys.mac.webobjects. This
isn't a Call for Votes (CFV); you cannot vote at this time.
Procedural details are below.

Newsgroup line:
comp.sys.mac.webobjects Developing for and administrating Apple WebObjects

RATIONALE: comp.sys.mac.webobjects

Often called Apple's best-kept secret, WebObjects is a JAVA-based platform for
developing web applications. It provides an integrated environment for quickly
and easily developing dynamic websites, and is robust and scalable enough for
high traffic use.

A common ground is needed for discussion of development and administration
issues for those that develop for and run WebObjects applications. Apple used
to run a web-based bulletin board for Webobjects discussion, but has shut
those down and replaced them with three seperate mailing lists which have a
combined posting rate of near 40 messages a day. The creation of a newsgroup
would give discussions more 'breathing space', and also give other Webobjects
users who aren't aware of the mailing lists (or don't care for mailing
lists) a forum for discussion.

CHARTER: comp.sys.mac.webobjects

This newsgroup is for the discussion of Apple WebObjects, including but not
limited to: the sharing of ideas, thoughts, and knowledge in developing for
or administrating t read more about RFD: comp.sys.mac.webobjects
