Hi

I was thinking about learning the JAVA program ing language . I asked a
friend his views and he told me not to bother - as JAVA is a slow piece
of shit ! Is that true, is it really a goofy outdated language that
doesnt run quickly like other languages? (from the horses month).

Thanks

Either you are a Troll -- in which case you need to find a better way to pass
your time. Or you aren't -- in winch case you need to find a better friend.

ThanksAstounding! /I was thinking/ Indead! How are you at learning?

There is only one language AFAIK that is more mathematically pure than
JAVA?

Can you name that language? Or, Is this really the question you need
answered?

The problem is rooted within the massive propoganda from companies
similar as <SNIP> that popularize a misconception that register based
architectures are faster than a stack ( of registers).

Maybe or maybe not, the answer you seek is ... Hmm, I'm not sure.

THOUSANDS OF PAGES OF CODE, BY THEN YOU'll KNOW! OR, WILL YOU SIMPLY

For crying out sideways. You still recycling those old trolls.

see http://mindprod.com/jgloss/benchmark.html

You'll see that JAVA with native compilers and hotspot now can beat
C++

I decided against JAVA, I think my friend was right. I downloaded this
applet that showed reflecting water, christ it was soooo slow to run.
That clinched it for me, it was obviously the fact that it was a JAVA
(applet) - written in JAVA - running on JAVA. SLOW SLOW SLOW.

Anyway I've taken my friend advice, he suggested that I learn a more
modern language, one that runs faster. Thanks for all the comments
anyway.

I decided on Visual Basic in the end. It seems to be a lot more
powerfull. It even lets you draw out the buttons and text boxes using a
graphical interface, instead of all that old fashioned hand coding
swing shit.

If you want a modern fast language, you probably want Fortran 2003.
So modern that the compilers have not been written yet.

JAVA is plenty fast enough, depending a lot on what you
want to do with it.

Troll. One slow applet (that probably does not use hardware accelleration)
does not mean the language is slow. Perhaps it was using one of M$' crappy
VM's?

I recon all languages will dissapear completely over the next five
years and everyone will use Microsoft technologies. Dont put all of your
broken JAVA eggs in one holed basket.
