I am trying to install J2
SDK 1.4.2 on a
Windows 2000
system .
I've installed the OS on my H drive, but try to install most
additional applications on my F drive.
I start the install process, and specify the
target drive as my F drive.
The Install Shield then complains I don't have enough
space on my H
drive, because it requires 105MB on my F drive, but 268MB on my H drive
(it is the H drive which has the lack of space, the F drive has over 1GB
free).
My TEMP and TMP
environment variables
point to G:\TEMP, so that should
not require access to the H drive either.
Is it actually possible to install JAVA SDK substantially on any other
drive than the
boot drive? If so, how is it achieved?
Thanks,
George.

It's likely not the
JDK that's having a problem installing, but the
extra
JRE . When you install JDK 1.4.2 (and other versions) you are
asked to install the several different items. The last item is a bare
JRE and it wants to place this JRE in your "Program Files" dir which
is usually located on your
Windoze system drive. There is no way
to modify the
location of this second JRE (from the
GUI anyway). And
why
Sun feels it's necessary to install a second copy of the same
JRE that's in the JDK
directory is beyond me.
I just tell the install
program not to install the secondary JRE and
use the one in the JDK. They are the same as far as I can tell
anyway.

That seems to have been the problem.
Thanks,
George.
