Cannot start Eclipse on HPUX system - UI Hangs

Hi,

I am trying to run Eclipse 3.1.1 on an HPUX machine (uname -a = B.
11.11, 9000/800 which I assume means I am running OS 11 on an HPUX
9000 machine) and I am using a 1.4 JVM. When I start Eclipse it hangs
on any window/wizard/dialog box that requires input. For example if I
start Eclipse with no parameters, the workspace window app ears where I
choose my workspace directory. I cannot input any data or selct OK, or
anything. I am stuck there and need to kill everything.

If I run Eclipse with the -d option then it goes to the normal Eclipse
start window. Everything looks fine, but again I cannot select
anything, click on anything or use any menu. Also, the progress bar
that shows up while starting never quite finishes. There don't seem
to be any logs created that I can find.

I am running Cygwin from my laptop to connect to the remote HP Machine
and I am using ssh -Y to start the window/session.

Is there any trick to getting Eclipse to work on an HPUX machine?

Thanks

I just tested this on Sun as well and found that it is a Motif issues
and not an HPUX issue. I cannot get the UI to work properly on Sun
Motif or HPUX Motif, but it does work on Sun if I use GTK. Any idea
why I cannot get it to work with Motif?

Thanks

I haven't used Motif, but but it'd seem to me every windowing
system would've its own API. So an app would've to be written to
work with a particular one.

It seems peculiar to me for example that Gnome and GTK live side by
side on Linux . Does thisn't divide the Linux universe of software in
two?

Or are all these just implementations of X-windows so to the program
they all look identical?
