Just curious as to why there is a ColdFusion ODBC Server that is run be default?

I thought it was necessary to run this to use data connections with ColdFusion but it
turns out all of our sites run 100-fold faster and better with the darn thing
turned off and there is no issue connecting to data sources!?

So why is it there at all? Just curious more than anything. read more about ColdFusion ODBC Server (CF7)

We've recently upgraded from CF7 to CF8. We downloaded the trial version and
then purchased the license. Twice, the service has
crashed (within 1 week). The error was essentially:

windows cannot start service Cold Fusion 8 Administrator Server. If this is a
non-Microsoft application, contact the Vendor. Error
Code 2

We've tried everything from clearing space on the server, to restarting
multiple times. The only thing that has seemed to work (t
emporarily) is a re-install. However, it seems to be a temporary fix.

We've never had this issue until after the upgrade.

We've been experiencing severe down time due to this issue. read more about Cold Fusion 8 Service unable to restart

Hi, I'm running ColdFusion MX7 Standard and I have installed Verity and verified that
it is running as a service (same computer), however, when I go into the ColdFusion
Administrator, and click on Data & Services > Verity Collections, I get a
message that says:
You must configure your application server to enable Verity. For instructions,
see "Installing and Using Cold Fusion MX."

I have reinstalled Verity and searched endlessly for technotes related to this
and haven't been able to resolve this issue. Anyone have any recommendations
outside of a complete ColdFusion reinstall. I have a ton of datasources and custom
tags and such that'd be a pain to reinstall. Thanks! read more about CF MX7 Enable Verity?

I have been running ColdFusion 8 since release and generally no problems. Now, it can not
connect to our mail server and there appears to be no reason. Here's the setup:
We have ColdFusion 8 Standard on Win 2003 server. The same box runs SmarterMail 4.3.

When I try to verify connection settings in ColdFusion Administrator, it fails, using
all of the same settings that worked 2 hours ago. I have tried restarting the ColdFusion
service and that did not help.

I have read all of the documentation for how to upgrade from ColdFusion 7.02 to ColdFusion 8.
Well there is actually only one blurb in all of the ColdFusion docs.

"Upgrade installation You can upgrade from Cold Fusion MX, Cold Fusion MX 6.1,
and Cold Fusion MX 7. When upgrading from Cold Fusion MX, Cold Fusion MX 6.1, or
Cold Fusion MX 7, the installer preserves the existing settings and installs in
a new directory, automatically assigning ports that don't conflict with the
existing installation."

OK that sounds simple enough, so I went ahead and installed it. Well it did
not work, now I am stuck somewhere between 7 and 8.

My basic step, as I can best recall at 1:00AM.

* Select Multi server Configuration
* Select install path, I used D:\JRun4
* This is where my existing cf7 install was located
* installer told me port 8300 was being used so it gave me port 8306 instead
* Selected d: for Cold Fusion8DotNetService install path
* Select Passwords for admin and rds
* installed CF
* received error after install (Adobe_Cold Fusion_8_InstallLog.log)

ANT Script Error:

Status: ERROR

Additional Notes: ERROR - jrun.xmlUnable to remove
existing file D:\JRun4\bin\jrun.exe
* rebooted
* can not login to CFADMIN at port 8306
* tried to login to CFADMIN at port 8300, everythin works
* it appears the cf7 services are still running, read more about What are the recommended steps to upgrade from CF7 toCF8

Hi all. Hope someone can help out with this one. Spent too much time trying
to figure it out without any luck!
Basically, the Cold Fusion page does not always load up properly. The page ends
after displaying an improperly formatted menu (using CFMENU tag) and a
JAVAscript error appears. It varies between "Ext not found" or "Cold Fusion not
found" - basically indicating certain JS libraries didn't get loaded properly.
This only happens occasionally and randomly and more often with IE6 than IE7.
We are running CF8 (with update) on Linux, Apache over SSL. Usually, pressing
the refresh button solves the problem and the page loads properly. Any help
would be greatly appreciated! read more about CF8 Ajax pages not loading properly

I have CFMX 7.2 running on a server using the external web server, IIS6. I
have installed CF8 in the multiserver configuration onto the same server. What
I read is that for these to coexist the CF8 needs to be installed on the
built-in web server (also what ColdFusion apparently automatically does when the
multiserver configuration is installed).

One of my questions is this - if I have CF7 using the external web server can
I NOT run the web configuration tool and connect my CF8 instances to the
external web server also?

Another question is this - CF8 uses the webroot of
jrun4\servers\instancename\instance-ear\instance-war . I want the developers
to store their documents somewhere else. I have done the virtual mapping in
the jrun-web.xml but I can not get anything to work when I do that. Is there
anyway to point something to the location of the users files and have them
resolve them on a website? read more about Coexistence of CF7 and CF8 on one server

I recently installed the CF8 Trial on a Win2003 Server (32-bit), 2 dual-core
AMD 2.6GHz CPUs, 8Gb RAM. I'm trying to benchmark some processes from my
production CFMX6.1 system, but I can not get the JVM settings to match. On my
production server, I have the max size set to 1536M, but I can not get CF8 to
start with anything over 1024M (I get that 0x2 error). Obviously, it's a newer
JRE, but I do not understand why I can not go to 1.5Gb on this one.

Also, should I change the default JVM settings?

to be related to the 64-bit platform. Can anyone confirm that the application

I have two servers of which oracle is on one and colfusion on the other. Data
CF requests is coming from a public network. Each is part of a workgroup. I
want the traffic to be routed through a crossover cable which isn't the
primary connection.

Server1 - Cold Fusion 7 installed. ColdFusion Application installed.
Server2 - Oracle database installed. ColdFusion Application accessing this server.
Server 1 and 2 have a LAN connection and also a crossover cable.

The ip addresses are as follows:
Server2: Oracle Public 111.1.1.1
Server2: Cross-Over 222.22.22.3

Server1:Cold Fusion: Public 111.1.1.2
Server1: Cross-Over 222.22.22.4

There is an Oracle ColdFusion data source pointing to Server2

How do I get Cold Fusion to route its' requests from server2 via the crossover
cable.
Currently the LAN public connection is the primary route between both servers
althought the cross over cable has been connected.

:confused;

background:
- 2 prod servers one is running ColdFusion 6 the other ColdFusion 7 (the reason is to ensure
CF 7 functions correctly w/half of our traffic for a few weeks)
- both have own external IP and users are routed via round robin [def]DNS[/def] (Domain Name Service)

issue:
- someone logs into our SSL area successfully but when they click a link to
run a report etc, they are kicked back out to login screen as if they never
logged in
- this isn't happening for every user, just a few
- suspect it's a cookies issue because if we route them to a specific server
(e.g. www1 or www2) then they can "stick"; without that they do not

question:
- could this be the purge interval setting in ColdFusion 7 that is not part of ColdFusion 6? or
is it because we're running two versions of ColdFusion server

any help is appreciated. read more about CF 7 Cookie Issue

We have had our production intranet running on CFMX 6.1 (6,1,0,hf53852_61) for
about 3 years now. In the last few weeks, we have been noticing a higher
incidence of spontaneous restarts of the ColdFusion service (maybe 3-4 times per week),
but there's no indication in the JRUN or ColdFusion logs of why the service is
restarting. We use SeeFusion to monitor JVM memory usage and active requests,
and memory is never an issue at the time of the restarts, and there are no
"chunky" jobs running at the time either.

Are there any other known reasons for the CFMX service to restart itself, or
any place else I should be looking for clues? My only response to my boss
right now is that I hope when we upgrade to CF8 this year, the problem will go
away (and be replaced by a new one). read more about Random CFMX 6.1 Restarts

but it doesn't seem to haven'ticeable effects. I tried to spy my code using

I need some clarification on the topic of sessions ending upon closing of a
browser. Here's my situation: I have a web-based terminal emulator to gain
access to the mainframe application. From this web-based emulator, I am
invoking a web application. Once I do this, I have two separate windows open
(two separate sessions?). Once I close my web application (but keep open the
web-based terminal emulator), I am assuming that the session ends for that
application. I find that this isn't true because if I go into it about an
hour later, I automatically get timed out (timeout in my application is 15
minutes). I read in documentation that if the j2ee Session Variables check box
is checked that the session variables will expire whenever the user closes
their browser, or when the session timeout period elapes (whichever comes
first).

My question is: do I have to have all browser sessions closed to expire my
session variables? If so, that'd be the reason why I am still timing out
once I go back into an application that's been closed for a while. Can someone
confirm this? Any help'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks! read more about Does session end when user closes browser?

I have two web servers on which I want to host a single web site using
Cold Fusion 8 clustering. Both servers are running Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise:

Web1, among other things a domain controller with its own IP, plus an IP for
the website.
Web2, the secondary domain controller with its own IP, plus an IP for the
website.

This is four different IPs.

I have already defined a Cold Fusion 8 instance on each server and on Web1 I have
created a cluster of the two instances. I am using DFS replication to keep the
images of the web site the same on both servers. (As an aside, the website
needs an SSL cert.)

I have seen no documentation covering this, which is supposed to be simpler
with Cold Fusion 8.

1) Is the correct solution to somehow define a single IP for the website that
exists on both servers?

1a) If so, is there anything I need to tell my hosting service when asking for
this hardware?

1b) Once available, is there anything I need to do to prep it for use?

2) If I can not use a single IP, then IIS 6 on each server will have its own IP
for the website, which IP do I use for the website in DNS?

setting up a website using Cold Fusion 8 clustering using IIS 6, please point me

Can someone point me at documentation, white paper, benchmark testing results
or other information that'd be useful for determining practical resource
requirements when considering deployment with multiple server instances?

The white paper "Multiple server instances in Cold Fusion 8 Enterprise
Edition",
(http://www.adobe.com/products/Cold Fusion/pdfs/cf8_multiple_instances_wp.pdf)
describes the needed approach, but doesn't provide any clues as to reasonable
expectation as to the number of instances that could be deployed. The diagrams
used to illustrate the approach show three instances. No clue there for memory
or CPU resources involved in this sort of scaling.

Is ten reasonable for number of server instances on a single box? What about
50 or more? Are there resource requirements or other limitations which mandate
practical limits for scaling that will essentially determine the maximum?

If nothing from Adobe, can you share your real world experience with what
works?

I created a car file in CF6.1 and then on the new server
deployed the file.

The message at the end of the deployment indicated it was
successful, although there were a number of error messages
that appeared during the deployment that I haven't
analyzed yet.

However, reading closely in the documentation I see the following

Cold Fusion 8 doesn't unpack archives created in previous versions of
Cold Fusion.

When you migrate from a previous version of Cold Fusion to Cold Fusion 8 and
then create a
CAR file, if you customized the log directory setting, it isn't included in
the archive.

Now surely this must be some type of typo, or it isn't exactly describing the
situation.
I'd find it difficult to believe that Adobe wouldn't provide a seamless
migration
to upgrades in the software.

I certainly don't want to enter the hundreds or thousands of lines of
information
by hand as we upgrade to CF8.

Could someone please clarify?

Need help, tried other stuff on other postings trying to edit jrundll file that
does not seem to exist

I will look at so many places to try and get Cold Fusion 7 or 8 to work with IIS
or Apache on Windows Vista Ultimate which came pre-loaded with the new laptop.

It just gives me a 404 error complaining about the MIME types.
I saw one forum that I need to edit the wcnfiguration.config files (some name
similar to that) in the system 32 interdel folder, but I get an access denied
error when trying to edit in notepad....even though I am logged in as the
administrator.

The index page for Cold Fusion works afte the install as well as IIS 7.0 is
working fine, but when trying to execute a .CFM fikle it just gives that 404
error and does not seem to recognise the .CFM file. I tried adding the CFM in
MIME types in IIS admin and selected Cold Fusion/application but it did not work.
I then changed the CFM descrip to text/html (something like that) and it then
launched the CFM file and showed the html part of it, but did not process the
Cold Fusion. It may be a simple MIME configuiration problem in IIS, but I do not
know what types should be there and what the type descriptions need to be.

If anyone can help me with this, I really need the help to get this to work
with Vista. If you've instructions, can you really spell it out for me please
with as much step-by-step instructions as possible please, I want to be sure to
do it right.

We are getting this error only when executing a stored procedure that utilizes
link servers. The error is:

[Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver][SQLServer]Named Pipes Provider: Couldn't
open a connection to SQL Server [5].

Our SQL Server is set to use Windows authentication only (Kerberos-based
authentication). The error above happens when a stored procedure needs to
query a table from another server (linked server). We've loaded the latest
DataDirect JDBC drivers (3.5)
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=42dcb10a&sliceId=2

Is there an updated driver or a service pack available (3.7 perhaps)?

Does anybody have any ideas?

Thank you in advanced. read more about Does CFMX 7 support SQL SERVER 2005?

I'm trying to get 7.0.2 running on any 1.5 jdk, with limited success. The steps
I took are:

1. stop ColdFusion services
2. install 1.5
3. install JRun4 updater (6) into cfusionmx7/runtime
4. modify jvm.config to point to the 1.5 jre
5. restart ColdFusion

Everything appears to work except for my flex2gateway calls, which fails with:

I am having problems with a ColdFusion server on windows.

When I attempt to use flash forms or almost any other type of form that is new
on the server I get a dialog that asks for a password. Example
http://hauntworld.com/flash_form.CFM I have no idea why this is doing this, or
how to change it. There is no security set up for the directory and you can
actually just continually click on cancel and eventually it'll show the form
and the form behaves like it should. If I remove all the form code the server
doesn't ask for a password.

I have access to the server but didn't set it up and am very wary of messing
around with it unless I know what I?m doing. And at the moment I don?t. Any
help'd be appreciated.

This is really an odd one. I just installed ColdFusion 8. I have been running
the monitor to see how things are performing. I noticed a really odd error
happening. Somehow, some standard HTML from the web page is finding its way
into the URL string that is passed to the next page when a link is clicked.
There is absolutely no way that this html is being set as a variable anywhere.
There is no code in the template that should cause the HTML to appear on the
URL string. Yet its there.

We do have an app that does server-wide GZIP compression. I thought perhaps it
was corrupting the page somehow. I shut that off but it did not correct the
problem. I ran an HTML validator to see if perhaps there was a quote missing
somewhere that caused this oddity, but no dice.

At this point, I really think its some kind of bug that happens in memory when
the page is being rendered. Has anyone else ran into anything like this? read more about Rogue HTML appearing in URL strings

I am working on building a collection for my RETS search system, and I am
having issues with the verity server it's self. When I run my test app, I get
this error.

Unable to connect to the Cold Fusion MX Search service.
On Windows you may need to start the Cold Fusion MX Search Server from the
services control panel.
On Unix, you may need to run the 'cfmxsearch' script in the Cold Fusion MX bin
directory.

Error: JAVA.io.IOException: unable to obtain from connection pool: cannot make
connection to server at: k2://localhost:9950

When I restart k2admin, I get this error.

I recently read that in addition to Localhost, the development version of ColdFusion
will now allow access via 2 client machines. I am running MX7 using the built
in webserver, and'd like to be able to test on a second machine. Both
machines are hooked up to the internet via a DSL router and have XP Pro.

I thought it'd be as easy as just putting the IP address of the machine
with ColdFusion installed on it (w/:8500 appended) into a browser on the second
machine, but when I do so, I get "internet explorer cannot display the web
page". I figure there must be some little thing I'm missing somewhere --
firewall settings? (I use the Windows XP Pro builtin) file sharing settings?
preferences in IE somewhere?

Any help'd be most appreciated! read more about Cold Fusion over a home network?

I am going online 4 the first time. I have a folder called "com" at the root
folder. I then use
Application.CFCROOT = "Havesters.com";
When I reference it like this - Home =

I get the below error even though ir runs on the PC well. The hosting
platform is Windows

The error can be seen here http://www.havesters.com/test1.CFM
